South African batsman JP Duminy has announced that he'll bid adieu from ODIs at the end of this year's ICC Cricket World Cup. The 34-year-old will be available for national selection in the T20I format, however, and has already retired from Test match cricket after playing 46 matches in 2017.

"The last few months on the sidelines have given me an opportunity to re-assess my career going forward and to plot some goals I'd like to achieve in the future," he was quoted saying by Cricbuzz on Friday, March 15.

"While a decision like this is never easy, I also feel that it is the right time for me to pass on the baton. I will still be available to play international and domestic T20 cricket, but would also like to invest more time towards my growing family, who are my number one priority."

Duminy, who has had two previous World Cup appearances in 2011 in the subcontinent and four years later in Australia and New Zealand, has so far played 193 ODIs with 5047 runs at an average of 37.39 and strike-rate 84.4. He also picked up 68 wickets with the ball - something that allowed him to claim his place as a dependable all-rounder.

The veteran left-hander once made 150 runs off 122 balls during a one-off ODI against the Netherlands and that remains his best score in the 50-overs arena, while 4/16 versus Ireland in Benoni is his leading One-day International spell so far.

"I have been privileged to live out my dream playing a sport I love, and I am forever grateful for the support I have received from my teammates, coaches, family, friends and fans throughout the years."

Duminy's call arrives just a few days after wristspinner Imran Tahir's. Tahir will also not play ODIs beyond the World Cup. But he'll continue featuring for South Africa in the shortest format of the international game.
