The ICC World Cup 2019 is on the horizon with just over two months to go and teams are in the last phase of finalizing their squads for the mega event in England and Wales. Most of the team are engaged in ODI series and four-time semi-finalists South Africa were seen routing Sri Lanka at home in the 50-over format.

Former South African captain Shaun Pollock, who led them in the 2003 edition at home, has also given his opinion on what sort of squad the Proteas should take into the World Cup tournament. Pollock believes that the Proteas can win the tournament if they work out the right approach to play in English conditions.

“There are some strong teams around. We thought we had the formula before, but it didn’t work out. There’s no reason why this team can’t come up with the right strategy and perform at the right time and bring home the silverware,” Pollock said.

Shaun Pollock recently admitted that the team’s exit from the 1999 World Cup was the most heartbreaking one till now as they were the best team at the event. South Africa tied their semi-final with Australia, but Australia went through to the finals on the back of Australia having defeated Australia in the group stages.

Shaun Pollock also revealed his South Africa squad for the ICC World Cup 2019 in England and Wales. Pollock picked experience over youth in the World Cup squad which sees Dale Steyn, Hashim Amla and JP Duminy making it into the 15-man squad. However, he left exciting fast bowler Anrich Nortje out of the squad but did pick Aiden Markram in the squad.

South Africa will kickstart the World Cup 2019 tournament on May 30 against England in the tournament opener.
