BAN v IND 2022: Cricket fraternity lauds Virat Kohli as he slams 44th ODI century, goes past Ponting’s tally of international tons

Virat Kohli now has 72 international centuries to his name.

Virat Kohli | TwitterStar India batter Virat Kohli slammed his much-awaited 44th ton in the 50-over format in the ongoing third ODI against Bangladesh at Chattogram on Saturday (December 10).

Kohli came out to bat after Shikhar Dhawan’s dismissal in the fifth over of India’s innings. The veteran campaigner played a second fiddle to Ishan Kishan, who took the Bangladeshi bowling attack to the cleaners with his dazzling display.

As usual, Virat built his innings with singles, doubles and occasional boundaries. The former India skipper completed his half-century off 54 balls and then decided to increase his tempo.

While Kishan tormented the host bowlers with boundaries at will and slammed a double ton off 126 balls, Kohli too started finding boundaries more frequently and brought up his century in 85 balls with a six off Ebadot Hossain in the 39th over of India’s innings.

Virat Kohli was eventually dismissed by Shakib Al Hasan in the 42nd over for 113 off 91 balls, including 11 fours and 2 sixes. With this knock, he also ended his much-talked-about ODI century drought, which lasted more than three years. He also surpassed Ricky Ponting’s tally of 71 international centuries and only Sachin Tendulkar (100 hundreds) is ahead of him.

Thanks to Kohli’s ton and Ishan Kishan’s mesmerizing 210 off 131 balls, the Men in Blue piled up a mammoth 409/8 in their stipulated 50 overs.

For his stunning century, Virat Kohli received rich praise from the cricket fraternity on Twitter.
