Asia Cup 2018: Afghanistan player reports approach by bookie; ACSU puts Asia Cup under scanner

The incident reportedly happened after the Afghanistan vs Pakistan game.

As per reports, Afghan player was approached by an Indian bookie before the Pakistan game | GettyThe ongoing Asia Cup 2018 is getting some dubious claims as the ACSU (Anti Corruption and Security Unit) has reported that an Afghanistan player has approached them with claims of a bookie contacting him.

According to sources, an Afghan player was approached by an Indian bookie before the Pakistan game and the player immediately reported the matter to the team manager, who coordinated with the India staff and reported it to the anti-corruption officers.

This has got the ASCU scanning the whole tournament as such since they are already worried about the number of leagues mushrooming in Dubai and UAE as a whole. The Pakistan Super League (PSL), T10 league as well as the Afghanistan league have their games in Dubai and the UAE, which provide ideal breeding grounds bookies.

The ACSU is also looking into the early exit of 2014 champions Sri Lanka, who suffered humiliating defeats at the hands of Bangladesh and Afghanistan and crashed out of the race of super four stages early. Two ACSU officers are here for this tournament. ICC Anti Corruption officer Beer Singh is also keeping a close eye on the proceedings.
