Former New Zealand pacer Simon Doull has taken a cheeky dig at Mohammad Amir’s tainted past when the Pakistan speedster was sentenced jail for his involvement in the spot-fixing scandal.

In November 2011, Amir along with Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif was found guilty by a London court on criminal accusations relating to spot-fixing. He completed his charges in September 2015 and subsequently made a return to the national team.

Doull, who is working as a cricket expert for Cricbuzz in the Asia Cup 2018, was of the opinion that Amir shouldn’t be included in Pakistan’s playing XI in the Super Four clash against arch-rivals India. The former Kiwi fast bowler felt Amir isn’t living up to the expectations lately and Usman Khan shouldn’t be snubbed after one bad game.

However, Harsha Bhogle, who was another guest in the show, opined that Amir had something special in him as compared to his teammates to trouble the strong Indian batting line-up.

“I think Amir should play against India as he has something that other Pakistani bowlers don’t have,” Bhogle asserted on Cricbuzz Live.

Responding to Bhogle’s comment, Doull didn’t miss a chance to take a jibe at Amir’s dark past.

“What? Jail sentence?” Doull replied cheekily.

Coming to the match, Amir was included in Pakistan’s playing XI for the crucial encounter against India. With Shaheen Afridi impressing one and all in his debut ODI against Afghanistan, Amir was preferred over Usman.

Amir, however, was found out once again as he failed to swing the new ball against the arch-rivals and conceded 41 runs in his 5 overs.

Chasing the target of 238, Indian openers – Rohit Sharma (111*) and Shikhar Dhawan (114) – made the mockery of Pakistani bowling attack to win the match by 9 wickets in hand 63 balls to spare.
