The Asia Cup 2018 is on the cards and is all set to commence on 15th of September. Five permanent ICC members along with one associate member, Hong Kong, will be a part of the upcoming Asia Cup. The tournament will kick-start with an encounter between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. Bangladesh will be entering the tournament with a lot of confidence owing to their current form. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka will be hoping to start the league on a positive note after a sorry performance against South Africa at home. On one side, where Bangladesh have included their star Shakib Al Hasan in the squad despite his fitness issues, Sri Lanka on the other, have included Niroshan Dickwella over unfit Dinesh Chandimal who hasn’t recovered from a finger injury. In the last 5 head to head ODI battles, Sri Lanka have won three and Bangladesh have won only once while one of the games ended with no result.

Best economical pick – Mehidy Hasan has not played so many One Day Internationals yet but he can be a dark horse for Bangladesh in the forthcoming tournament. He grabbed three wickets in the recently concluded three-match ODI series against West Indies and the spinner was quite economical with the ball.

Top captains & vice captains – Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal is in the form of his life. The 29-year old has been the strength of his side from the last 10 years. The southpaw would be key for Bangladesh in this tournament because of his scintillating show in the recent past. He played some of the top innings against Windies and is in a good nick. Sri Lankan captain Angelo Mathews, who has been prone to injuries in the last couple of years, is set to lead the side in the upcoming Asia Cup. He had a decent outing against South Africa at home where he played couple of match-winning knocks.

Smart pick – Mahmudullah will be the key player in the Bangladesh middle-order. He is such a kind of player who never loses his temperament, even in the pressure situations and he has proved that many times. Earlier this year, his unbeaten 43 runs knock off 29 balls helped Bangladesh to beat Sri Lanka in the Nidahas Trophy and the heroic knock is still remembered.

Cautious Pick – Shakib Al Hasan’s inclusion in this squad is clearly a bad decision by the BCB. The all-rounder himself mentioned that he is not fit enough to play, yet the board booked his ticket to Dubai. Now, it would be interesting to see whether he will play the first game or not.

My XI – Tamim Iqbal (Captain), Angelo Mathews (Vice-Captain), Mehidy Hasan, Mahmudullah, Mushfiqur Rahim, Mustafizur Rahman,Mashrafe Mortaza, Suranga Lakmal, Kusal Mendis, Thisara Perera, Upul Tharanga
