Chandika Hathurusingha, Head coach of the Sri Lankan Team, believes that the fast bowler Lasith Malinga fits perfectly well into the team’s equation for the 2018 Asia Cup.

The 35-year-old has returned to the national One Day International squad after almost a year following his brilliant performances in the last few matches with the ball.

Malinga had last turned up for the Islanders in ODI in September 2017 followed by a series of injuries which forced him to stay away from action for quite a long time, but now “his fitness is up to the mark” and he is raring to go in the multi-nation tournament, says Chandika.

Meanwhile, Hathurusingha rated Malinga as one of the best death bowlers in the world and at the moment, he is in the perfect shape to make his mark in the six-nation tournament.

As per reports in the official website of ICC, Hathurusingha said ahead of 2018 Asia Cu opener, “I believe that Malinga fits into our equation for this tournament. He is one of the best death bowlers in the world. In the last few matches, he has performed well and his fitness is up to the mark.”

Sri Lanka will take on Bangladesh in the tournament opener on Saturday (September 15) in Dubai and Coach they are not going to take any team lightly.

Hathurusingha signed off by saying, “We don’t take any team lightly and we have focused on aspects such as the dew and wet wickets which are the swaying challenges I see.”
