Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has said on  Friday (September 14) that India are a very good team in limited-overs cricket and they have every chance of defending the Asia Cup title in the United Arab Emirates even without Virat Kohli.

The 14th edition of the Asia Cup will get underway in Dubai on Saturday (September 15) with Bangladesh taking on Sri Lanka in the tournament opener, while India will open their campaign against the minnows Hong Kong on September 18 then will play the arch-rivals Pakistan the very next day on September 19.

However, Ganguly admitted that India didn’t do well in England but they are still a very strong team in the One Day Internationals in the world and they will certainly do well in the 2018 Asia Cup.

As per reports in India Today, Ganguly told reporters in Kolkata, “India are a good side. They will do well in the Asia Cup. India could not do that well in England but in limited overs they are a top side.”

Rohit Sharma has been given the opportunity to lead India in the UAE after regular skipper Virat Kohli was rested after gruelling English tour and Ganguly is confident that he will do well in the 2018 Asia Cup.

The opener is the most successful captain in the Indian Premier League (IPL) alongside MS Dhoni, having won three titles for Mumbai Indians. He also led India to the Nidahas Trophy title earlier this year.

Dada further added on the same, “He has a very good record as captain so I expect him to do well too.”

Former Indian skipper dismissed all talks that India will be weakened side without Kohli in the 2018 Asia Cup, saying Team India is always stronger with Kohli but without the talismanic right-hander, the men in blue have every chance of winning the title in the UAE.

Ganguly signed off by saying, “With Virat the team is much stronger. Still without him also, this team is capable of winning the series.”
