Dinesh Chandimal’s name has been withdrawn from Sri Lanka’s Asia Cup squad after he failed to recover from a finger injury sustained during one of the SLC T20 League matches last week.

Wicketkeeper batsman Niroshan Dickwella will replace Chandimal in the 16-member squad. The 14th edition of the Asia Cup will be held in UAE from September 15 to 28.

Chandimal has played his last ODI against Bangladesh in January 2018. He didn’t feature in the recently held Test and ODI series against South Africa at home as he was banned for two Tests and four ODIs for acting against the Spirit of the Game during the second Test against West Indies in June.

Chandimal was charged for ball-tampering during the Gros Islet Test and subsequently missed the third Test at Barbados. Later, he was banned by ICC for two more Tests and four ODIs.

The 2018 Asia Cup will see six teams being divided into two groups. While India, Pakistan and Hong Kong are slotted in Group A, the Group B comprised of Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
