Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal could miss the Asia Cup 2018 opener against Sri Lanka on 15 September after hitting his finger during a practice session in Dhaka on Friday (7 September).

Tamim’s injury did not seem to be severe enough at the moment, but Bangladesh chief selector Minhajul Abedin has not made any comment on the same.  Mominul Haque was named as his possible replacement for the tournament opener if he fails to get match-ready in time.

As per reports in bdcrictime, the BCB Chief selector said “Tamim has hurt his finger. So we have keep Mominul Haque as possible replacement if need be. He (Mominul) could play in case of necessity.”

Mominul, who is a Test specialist batsman, got a national recall for the multi-nation event in the UAE following his stunning form with the bat for Bangladesh A in Ireland.

The list of injuries has been continually increasing for Bangladesh even before the 2018 Asia Cup, which is slated to be held in the United Arab Emirates from 15 September, as their top order batsman Nazmul Hossain Shanto is carrying a left finger injury.

Moreover, their premier all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is also doubtful to start due to a finger injury and now Tamim Iqbal's injury has also dented their confidence and their chances of starting the tournament on a good note.

Bangladesh Squad for Asia Cup:
