Mominul Haque has made the most of the given opportunity with Bangladesh A in their ongoing tour of Ireland, as the 26-year-old earned a national call for the upcoming Asia Cup 2018 in the UAE.

Haque, who last turned for Bangladesh in the One Day Cricket in the 2015 World Cup, cracked a career-best 182 against Ireland A and in the process, earned a national recall in the ODI team after Nazmul Hossain Shanto suffered hand injury during a practice session for the Asia Cup 2018.

Initially, Mominul was not named in the squad for the Asia Cup 2018, but Shanto’s injury offered him a great opportunity to resume ODI cricket in the multi-nation event. Now, the batsman included in the squad as Bangladesh Cricket Board extended the squad from 15 to 16 men.

Mominul told Cricbuzz, “I think the Ireland series was a great learning curve for me and it will help me in my coming days. I had to learn how to play aggressive cricket in completely different conditions and it was entirely a new experience for me. It was satisfying in a sense that I had managed to play a lot of shots throughout the series. I had very limited shots at my disposal and probably that is the reason it had an impact on my career in the shorter formats.”

Bangladesh is yet to find a suitable No. 3 batsman for the ODI side and Mominul can be their best pick for the spot as Bangladesh will start their Asia Cup campaign against Sri Lanka on September 15.
