Asia Cup 2018: India-Pakistan Asia Cup encounter likely to be rescheduled

The Asia Cup Indo-Pak game is scheduled to take place on 19th September.

India are scheduled to take on against Pakistan in the Asia Cup on September 19.

The much anticipated India versus Pakistan encounter in the upcoming edition of Asia Cup has been under scrutiny for poor scheduling for a while. The moment the itinerary was announced, the Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) has communicated that their disagreement with it, as it sees India playing the high voltage game against their neighbours having played a game just before that day.

Playing two ODI games on two consecutive days in the scorching heat of United Arab Emirates is practically not quite possible and that has come across as a big problem.

As per the present schedule, India will be playing back to back matches on September 18 against the not-yet-cleared qualifier and then on the 19th against Pakistan.

Many BCCI officials and former cricketers aren't okay with it. Virender Sehwag was one of the first to point out the fallacy and said recently, “No one plays back to back matches now in One Day International matches. It is wrong to have scheduled matches for India in such a manner. To play two One Day International matches without a break in Dubai’s hot weather is not correct scheduling,”

India is in Group A along with Pakistan and the qualifier while Group B consists of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the Super 4 and while the top two teams from the Super 4 will play the final on September 28 in Dubai.

Coming few days will be interesting with this matter, India's last Test in England is scheduled to end on September 11 and the Asia Cup trophy unveiling ceremony, for which the Indian Captain will have to be present, takes place on the 15th.
