In cricket, it is not necessary for the batsman to be technically sound to be a good batsman. Steve Smith is the best example for as the right hander does not have the soundest technique but still has 6485 runs to his name at a superb average of 63 in Test cricket.

The Australian batsman has a knack of shuffling a lot at the crease. It seems to be his tactic to put a bowler off his line and length. There have been times when he has hit balls from way outside off-stump into the leg side which has been a surprise for many.

Just like his shuffling at crease, he has his own unique style of leaving the balls alone. The leaves look hilarious to a lot of cricket lovers but it is the way he has succeeded in the longest format of the game.

After serving the 12-month ban for the ball tampering saga in South Africa, Smith made a terrific comeback by scoring twin daddy hundreds in the opening test match of Ashes 2019 which also marked the beginning of the World Test Championship (WTC).

As the Aussies lead by Tim Paine took field against rivals England in the second test at the Home of Cricket, Lord’s, they managed to restrict the English batting line-up to 258-all-out. When the visitors came out to bat, they found themselves 4 down for 80 in 37.1 overs before rain suspended play with Smith and Wade returning unbeaten to the dressing room.

Smith’s leaves caught the attention of England women's cricketer Alexandra Hartley as she found them very entertaining.
