The iconic Ashes series 2017-18 has turned out to be a one-sided contest as the hosts Australia registered an emphatic 4-nil series victory over the old enemy England.  Barring the Melbourne Test where the English batsmen showed some resistant, none of the Tests were even competitive. Australia secured the two Tests by an innings while the other two were won by 10 wickets and 120 runs respectively.

However, even before the series had started former Aussie skipper Ricky Ponting had predicted comprehensive series victory for the home team. In a video posted by Cricket Australia on their official Twitter page, Ponting can be seen previewing the Ashes series two weeks before the first Test.

“I have a bit more outward than normal about this one because I honestly think that Australia will win really easily. I know there are some concerns over our No. 6 and our keeper but if you look through the current England team, they are searching for an opener, searching for No. 3. Stokes might not be there. Couple of their quickies have gone down,” Punter had said.

“Anderson and Broad as good as they been over the years, I think they are on steady decline. They are not going to get better as cricketers, they sort of hanging on to reasonably high level of performance,” he further added.

Stressing on the fiery Aussie pace attack, the two times World Cup winning Australian captain had said: “We have got Starc, Cummins, Hazlewood who are sky rocketing. I mean these guys are on the up and you see this around all the sporting teams. You look at guys on the way up starting progress if they get a sniff they will be really unstoppable.”
