Former Australian pacer Mitchell Johnson who played a pertinent role in Australia’s Ashes win in 2013 -14 has opined on England’s two most experienced cricketers Alastair Cook and Stuart Broad who has not had an Ashes of their kind this time. They have not made any sizeable contribution so far in the series and with England gunning down the barrel to another whitewash it is very much time that the stars now shine for their side.

“Going to the next Test I think England will have to think about changes,” said Johnson. He also questioned if the senior English players are up to the level of their opponents. “I’m not sure if Stuart Broad is up to it at the moment. There will be some question marks around him, as a senior player,” he added.

About Cook, Johnson earlier said that he is not thinking about retirement, the rumors of which even Cook himself has denied. “Alastair Cook is someone who I think has been thinking about retirement. I just wonder now with the scoreline being 3-0 whether that will take a bit of pressure off him and he’ll just go out there and score runs. I’m not sure. I think the scars are there from the last series” said Johnson.

Johnson also said that the way Australia has played this Ashes series they might very much whitewash their arch rivals. He also felt that having failed to keep the Ashes urn at the WACA, Cook might bat bit freely and score some runs. The former skipper has managed to score 83 runs in the three games in the series till now.
