Michael Vaughan - Cricket pundit and former England skipper, on Tuesday, opined that all-rounder Moeen Ali doesn't deserve to play in the Melbourne Test on 26 December after his poor string of performances in the ongoing Ashes series in Australia.

Before the start of the Ashes 2017-18, it was expected that Moeen Ali would prove a trump card for England against Australia, but all expectations washed out with tourists Ashes defeat, as the hosts regained the urn on Monday after winning the third Test by an innings and 41 runs in at the WACA.

England’s leading spinner – Ali has taken just 3 wickets and scored 38, 40, 2, 25, 11 and 0 in his six outing in the Ashes series so far, and Michael Vaughan believes Mason Crane deserves a go instead of Moeen after his disastrous all-round performance in series against Australia.

Speaking to BT Sports, Vaughan said, “I don’t see how Moeen Ali plays in Melbourne. You’re not going to put him in your top six, he’s not bowling with any kind of motion. Mason Crane is in the squad.”

He signed off by saying, “If Moeen is going to be the batsman that bowls a little bit, he’s got to bat a bit better than we’ve seen… so for me, Moeen can’t play in Melbourne.”
