Usman Khawaja has so far had a good outing in the Perth Test as he scored a much needed and important fifty for his and the team’s cause. In a game where almost all Australian premier batsmen got runs with Smith and Mitchell Mash scoring big runs Khawaja’s 50 will give him the much needed confidence. A win by an innings and 41 runs in Perth on Monday saw Australia reclaim the urn thanks to a 3-0 series lead.

“We’ve played some good cricket so far. Everyone’s contributed at certain periods. It’s been a great team effort,” he told a news conference on Tuesday.

“Hopefully we’ll win 5-0 and when we do, I’m sure at the end of that we’ll all get together and have a drink. I’m sure that will happen.

“We know the series is won, but we’re still trying to win the next two games.”

“I think Starcy’s doing all right. I’m sure whatever the case, he’s going to be doing whatever he can to play Boxing Day,” he said.

“He bowled beautifully this game, he was obviously in a little bit of pain, but I think they’re going to have to assess it [and see] how things go after the next couple of days.

“You never know what’s really happening until you give it a little bit of a break and hopefully he’ll be there for Boxing Day.”

With the series now won and Australia well placed Khawaja said that the team is looking forward to gaining an Ashes whitewash.
