Former Australian speedster Mitchell Johnson, on Monday, reckons that the veteran England Test batsman Alastair Cook will be thinking about his retirement after the ongoing Ashes series 2017-18.

Currently, Joe Root-led England side is still struggling to find the way to make comeback to the Ashes series in Australia, as the hosts already took a 2-0 lead in the five Tests series.

Almost all England’ star players including, Joe Root, Alastair Cook, and Moeen Ali, are struggling and have not yet put any stunning show in the first Two Tests, and Johnson feels that the England side is struggling mentally in Australia in the ongoing prestigious series.

With the current struggle of the England side in the Ashes 2017-18, the former Aussie believes that ‘there’s a lot of pressure on Skipper Root with what’s happening outside the game’.

In his last four outings in the ongoing Ashes series, England opener Cook scored 37, 16, 2, and 7 respectively, amassing only total 62 runs at a mediocre average of 15.50. With his horrific show with the bat, many cricket pundits expressed their concern over his Test career.

Now, the 36-year-old Aussie said he is continuously failing to find his rhythm with the bat that will be forced Cook to retire from Test cricket with the conclusion of the ongoing Ashes series against Australia.

Johnson told ESPN Cricinfo, “England will struggle mentally. You’ve got guys like Alastair Cook struggling. He can’t find form. And I’d say he’s thinking about retirement. He has played 150 Test matches; it’s got to take it out of you.”

Now, the struggling England side will face the high-flying Australian side in the third Ashes Test, which is scheduled to start from 14 December in Perth.
