An innings and 40-run win in the day-night pink-ball encounter against Sri Lanka at the Gabba seems to have given a lot of confidence to Tim Paine, who feels that his young and inexperienced side is building nicely towards the away Ashes later in the year.

"There’s no doubt you have to have options to adapt to different conditions but what we are seeing over the last 12 months is that we have developed depth in all our areas before we go to England," said the captain after beating yet another touring side in Brisbane where Australia has not lost a Test since 1988 on Saturday, January 26.

Pat Cummins ran through the visitors' batting line-up by claiming astonishing match-figures of 10/62 and was later awarded "Man-of-the-Match" for his exploits with the swing and seam movement available.

Dinesh Chandimal, who came into this match with hopes of clinching his country's maiden Test victory down under, was left dejected after being hammered inside three days.

Although, Sri Lankan skipper was pleased with wicketkeeper-batsman Niroshan Dickwella, who struck a fluent half-century in the first innings. "Dickwella is an experienced player who can play the role the team wants," Chandimal said, "We are really disappointed as a team. Our batting was below par throughout the game."

Lahiru Kumara couldn't take the field during the second innings due to a hamstring injury and has been subsequently left-out of Sri Lanka's squad for next Test in Canberra beginning next Friday, February 1.
