As if a humiliating loss in the opening Test against Australia was not enough, Sri Lanka received another blow with the confirmation that injured pacer Lahiru Kumara will be out of action for four to six weeks.

Having sustained a hamstring injury in the final session on Day 2, Kumara unable to bat in Sri Lanka’s second innings as the visitors were left stranded at 9-139, ensuring Australia’s resounding victory by an innings and 40 runs.

"Kumara is out for four to six weeks. So he's out of the next game. And Dushmantha is also injured. So we'll need to get another two quick bowlers," Sri Lanka skipper Dinesh Chandimal said while addressing the media after losing the Test series opener at Gabba.

Chandimal’s statement meant Kumara will also miss a major chunk of Sri Lanka’s tour of South Africa, starting on February 13.

Sri Lanka were already struggling from a hamstring complaint that ruled ace all-rounder Angelo Mathews out of the Australia Test series.

The Sri Lankan selectors are yet to name any replacement for Kumara. Right arm pacer Kasun Rajitha and left-armer Vishwa Fernando, who was drafted as a replacement for the injured Nuwan Pradeep, are the other two pacers available in the squad.

The second Test between Australia and Sri Lanka will be played at Manuka Oval, Canberra from February 1.
