Tasmania batsman Ben McDermott is all set to make his One Day International debut at home, as he has been named in the Australia squad as injury cover for Shaun Marsh for the remaining two ODIs of the three-match series against South Africa to be played on November 9 at Adelaide Oval.

Marsh missed the first ODI in Perth on Sunday after requiring minor surgery on an abscess in his “buttock region” and due to which McDermott was added to the Australian squad as the national selectors are worried he might not be ready in time for the Adelaide ODI.

National Selector Trevor Hohns told reporters on Monday, “The National Selection Panel has decided to add Ben McDermott to the ODI squad ahead of Friday’s match against South Africa at the Adelaide Oval. Part of the decision to include Ben is to ensure we have appropriate coverage should Shaun Marsh fail to recover in time for Friday’s second ODI. We will continue to monitor Shaun’s progress and give him every opportunity to prove his fitness ahead of the match.”

The 23-year-old made his international debut against United Arab Emirates a T20 International match last month and played all three of Australia's T20I defeats against Pakistan here.

Australia squad: Aaron Finch (captain), Shaun Marsh, Travis Head, Chris Lynn, Glenn Maxwell, Darcy Short, Marcus Stoinis, Alex Carey, Ben McDermott, Ashton Agar, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Adam Zampa.
