AUS v IND 2018-19: We were India's "punching bags" during the Test series, says Langer

Justin Langer reflected upon the "tough time" that his Australian outfit went through against India during the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Virat Kohli's men won the four-match Test series 2-1 and clinched their historic maiden triumph down under, leaving opponent's head coach absolutely dread the overall experience.

"I look back now at Sydney and Melbourne (and) without sounding like a sook, we felt like punching bags through a lot of criticism in the media,” Langer told radio station SEN on Tuesday, January 22, "We got beaten in Melbourne on Boxing Day, we drew the last Test in Sydney and India were a really tough opponent, but I’m sure in 10 years I’m going to look back and say, ‘geez that was a tough time but I’m better for it’."

This must be the first time that Australia hasn't won a single series more than half way past their home summer. The hosts also lost ODI and T20I series versus South Africa before failing to defeat India across all formats.

These results made former Australian captain Ricky Ponting very grumpy where he lashed out hard on current players for not being desperate enough while wearing the prestigious baggy green.

But Langer, who took over after Darren Lehmann left in aftermath of the ball-tampering incident in South Africa, is hoping to see things change in the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, which kickstarts on next Thursday, January 24.

“I’m stronger and wiser by the day. We keep rolling our sleeves up and it’s a tough gig, but we’re up for the challenge, that’s for sure," he concluded.
