Aaron Finch won the toss and chose to bat first, but was the first one out for just 6, bowled by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Carey followed for 18, dismissed by Shami. Khawaja was looking good, but his innings was cut short by a brilliant run out by Ravindra Jadeja.

Dhoni-Jadeja combo accounted for Peter Handscomb who made 20 and Marcus Stoinis made 29 before Shami had him caught by Dhoni. However, Shaun Marsh batted through the innings and made 131 in 123 balls with 11 fours and 3 sixes. He fell in the 48th over.

He was helped by Glenn Maxwell, who made 37-ball 48 (5 fours and 1 six). But Bhuvneshwar Kumar came back and halted the Australian march towards a score of over 300. He picked 4/45 and Australia managed to score 298/9.

For India, apart from Bhuvneshwar, Mohammad Shami picked 3/58, while Kuldeep went wicketless and debutant Mohammed Siraj had a nightmare going for 76 runs with no wicket to show for.

India, last time had lost their top three wickets for 4 runs inside four overs. This time, however, Dhawan (32) and Rohit (43) ensured that Indian didn’t lose early wickets. They added 47 runs for the opening wicket. Then Virat Kohli took over with a brilliant century (104 in 112 balls with 5 fours and 2 sixes).

He got some support from Ambati Rayudu, who played scratchy innings of 24 runs. MS Dhoni kept him company in a partnership of 82 runs for the fourth wicket. After the fall of Kohli’s wicket, Dhoni and Karthik (25* in 14 balls with 2 fours) took on the onus of finishing the match. Karthik was brilliant in keeping the pressure off Dhoni, so Dhoni could lead India to a win.

Dhoni (55* in 54 balls with 2 sixes) did it in style with a six to equal the scores off the first ball of the last over with 7 runs to go and then completed the formalities with a single. India won the match by 6 wickets and equalized the series 1-1.
