AUS v IND 2018-19: BCCI announces replacements for Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul

Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul are suspended pending an inquiry into their remarks on a tv show.

BCCI and CoA had recently suspended Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul for two matches after their controversial statements on the talk show Koffee with Karan. Both the cricketers faced severe backlash for their crass comments on women and general behavior.

The duo is currently in Australia and were part of the Indian ODI squads for Australia and New Zealand series. However, the BCCI and CoA decided to suspend the duo and they might be asked to explain themselves in front of an inquiry committee.

This puts their spots in the 2019 World Cup probable’s list in danger, as CoA member Diana Edulji has indicated.

Both cricketers appeared on the show which is hosted by Karan Johar, and went on to make some comments that offended a lot of people. The cricketers opened up on women and their relationships. Pandya apologized and accepted that he got carried away on the show, adding that he will refrain from repeating the mistake in the future.

Now BCCI has decided to name replacements for the duo. Punjab and India A batsman, Shubman Gill has been called up to the team for the New Zealand tour, while allrounder Vijay Shankar will join the team before the 2nd ODI at Adelaide.
