Mohammad Azharuddin said nothing can be more insulting for a team than losing on home shores, as the Virat Kohli led Indian side created history by clinching nation's maiden Test series victory in Australia. 

The likes of Cheteshwar Pujara, Rishabh Pant, Ishant Sharma, Mohammad Shami, Jasprit Bumrah and skipper Kohli himself stood out and helped Team India retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on the back of a 2-1 lead in the four-match Test series. 

"It's a historic moment - a lot of people are saying this is bigger than the World Cup. But a victory is a victory. When all three departments click together," Azharuddin told India Today during an event. 

"What could be more insulting for a team? If you lose at home.. even the crowd is demoralised.. The whole country feels demoralised. The Indian team went to Australia and demoralised the entire country by winning the Test series."

While Virat didn't quite live upto his own gigantic standards in the series where he made an outstanding hundred in Perth and amassed 282 runs across his seven innings, Azhar gave credit on the humoungous team success to the Indian captain for his evolving tactical acumen. 

"You can see Virat's performances and statistics are all in front of you. His numbers, his consistency is second only to Don Bradman I feel," Azhar, who played 99 Tests for the country, further said, "Yes definitely. He will improve further in the future and play even better. He will go on to break more records because age is also on his side."

"All his decisions have been correct in batting bowling and fielding. When a captain thinks positively about the team then you get positive results. Virat Kohli's thinking in every aspect is very positive. We should credit him for that. He is the wonder boy."
