AUS v IND 2018-19: There’s "no desperation" in this Australian side whatsoever, remarks Ricky Ponting

The former skipper is very disappointed with the way hosts have played in this series.

Ricky Ponting questioned Australia's desire to win after their poor overall performance in the New Year's Test at the SCG. The former skipper's remark came over Nathan Lyon's decision to not use the DRS after being dismissed by wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav in the first innings despite the home side having two reviews left up their sleeves.

"That dismissal actually says a lot to me about the mindset of this Australian team at the moment. There’s no desperation there whatsoever. Why wouldn’t they have had a look at that? They’ve still got the two reviews up their sleeve. There had to be some sort of doubt in that," said Ponting who is commentating in the series for Channel Seven

The batting legend was also critical of Lyon's teammate Mitchell Starc who, as per him, didn't care for giving any advice regarding the use of technology to his batting partner at the time.

"You can see where Mitchell Starc is standing at the non-striker’s end. One, look how wide he’s standing," Ponting further said, "There’s no need to be that wide in the first place. Nathan Lyon looks up, ‘Oh what do you reckon?’ ‘Oh I don’t know mate. Yeah I don’t know. But let’s not bother looking. We’ve only got two [reviews] up our sleeve’."

Australia were eventually bowled all out for 300 with Kuldeep Yadav bowling a fantastic spell of 5/99, as India scripted a 322-run lead and enforced follow-on over the home side.
