Steve Waugh lavished huge compliment on him and termed Jasprit Bumrah as the major difference between India and Australia in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy down under.
Bumrah, who is currently the leading wicket-taker of the series for his side with 20 wickets at 15.25, has been simply magnificent on his first Test tour in Australia with his control and variations.
Cheteshwar Pujara helped India post 443/7(declare) in Melbourne, but it is Bumrah who ensured that the No.1 Test side retains the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with his matchwinning spell of 9/86 at the MCG.
"Bumrah has been a revelation – he's been the difference between the two sides," Waugh told cricket.com.au, "He gets some breakthroughs, he's got good longevity and he can bowl long spells."
"Their (India's) bowling attack has been excellent, and obviously (Cheteshwar) Pujara has been the key to the batting. He's just occupied the crease, and then you've got (Virat) Kohli coming in around that."
Pujara has had a great series as well with his 521 runs at 74.00 including three tons in Adelaide, Melbourne and now Sydney making him the highest run-getter in this series. While skipper Virat Kohli has led inspirationally in the field and made an amazing ton in Perth to tally 282 runs across seven innings.
"They (India) look a really strong unit together, they work for each other really well and the captain is a strong leader," Waugh further said, "All the other guys fall in line and their bowling attack has been outstanding.
"India's tactics have been really good, they've thought about how they're going to go about this series. They are going to wear down our bowlers and bat around (Pujara), and their attack is good – they can take 20 wickets."
Having already taken a 2-1 unassailable lead in the series, India posted the mountain of 622/7(declared) in the first innings on the back of Pujara(193), Mayank Agarwal (77), Rishabh Pant (159*) and Ravindra Jadeja (81) at the SCG and completely took the game away from the hosts in the fourth and final Test.
Waugh hopes that the likes of Usman Khawaja and Shaun Marsh will stand up for the task and help Australia come out from this game with some sense of respectability as the win and the series now looks gone.
"We need someone like Khawaja to do the same sort of role maybe as Pujara, and Usman I'd like to see get a big score and lead the way and maybe show the younger guys the ropes of how to do it. He (Khawaja) probably needs to step up to the plate this match," he signed off.
