Ricky Ponting got inducted into ICC's Hall of Fame with a huge round of applause from the capacity crowd present at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Wednesday, December 26, 2018.

The batting legend was announced as the 25th Australian in the Hall of Fame earlier this year and got officially inducted during tea break on Day 1 of the ongoing Boxing Day Test between Australia and India.

Ponting, the 87th member of the elite club, also became the third inductee for the year behind England's Claire Taylor and Indian great Rahul Dravid.

The 44-year-old joins his illustrious former teammates Adam Gilchrist, Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath and Steve Waugh among the group. He was also inducted into the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame in February.

"I feel deeply honoured to be recognised by the ICC in this way. I loved every moment of my journey as a player and am so very proud of the team and personal achievements along the way," Ponting said in acknowledgement of the award.

"These would not have been possible without the help of so many people including my teammates, coaches and support staff that played such an integral part in my playing career."

"I would like to especially thank my family for their constant support and direction. Honours like this are just as much for them as it is for me," he added.

Ponting retired from the game in 2012 after amassing 13,378 Test runs with an average of 51.09 including 41 tons and a highest score of 257. He went onto register 13,704 ODI runs across 375 ODIs as well.
