AUS v IND 2018-19: ICC gives lowest passing rating to the Perth stadium pitch

ICC match referee adjudged the pitch despite defense from Australian coach.

The Optus Perth stadium pitch got an average rating from ICC

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has given the Perth pitch ‘average’ rating as per reports from Australian media. The swanky Optus Perth Stadium hosted its first-ever Test when Australia and India locked horns in their second match of the four-Test series.

The pitch was criticized for its uneven bounce starting from day one of the Test, which was won by Australia by 146 runs and leveled the four-match series 1-1.

According to a report in cricket.com.au, match referee Ranjan Madugalle rated the pitch at the new stadium in Perth as average —the lowest pass mark given out by the ICC. Earlier, the Adelaide pitch was given 'very good' rating from the international cricket body.

Australia coach Justin Langer had hit out at critics of Perth pitch saying, “Anyone who says there’s anything wrong with that wicket, they must have been watching a different game”.

The third match of the series, the traditional Boxing Day Test, will now be played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, starting December 26.
