AUS v IND 2018-19: Prithvi Shaw to miss the remaining Test matches; replacement named

Prithvi Shaw was injured during the CA XI vs Indians practice match.

Mayank Agarwal has been added as replacement for Shaw in Indian team

As India is struggling to keep afloat in the ongoing Perth Test with the score on 112/5 with 175 more runs to get on the final day; more bad news filtered in from the Indian team camp.

India’s teenage batting sensation Prithvi Shaw had injured his ankle while fielding in the outfield during the CA XI v Indians practice match at the SCG before the first Test. It was assumed that Shaw would miss possibly one Test of the series, but missed out on Perth Test as well.

Now it has been confirmed that Shaw will miss out on the remaining two Tests as well and the team management have named his replacement as well.

Karnataka opener Mayank Agarwal will fly to Australia before the third Test in Melbourne to replace Shaw in the Indian squad. Given that Indian openers have failed with alarming regularity on the overseas tours this year and in the series, Shaw was seen as a savior for Team India, who most possibly go into the third Test with the series drawn 1-1.

Now Mayank, who first made into the Test squad against Windies at home, is more or less likely to get his debut, given KL Rahul’s poor form and Vijay throwing away his sole chance to redeem himself.

The third Test between Australia and India begins on Boxing Day in Melbourne.
