AUS v IND 2018-19: Virat Kohli tries to use tea break to fine tune his batting as India chases 287

Australia was bowled out for 243, setting India a target of 287 runs to win the Perth Test.

Virat Kohli | GettyIndia is chasing 287 runs to win the second Test of the 2018-19 Border Gavaskar Trophy at Perth after Australia was bowled out for 243 runs.

The hero with the ball for India was Mohammad Shami, who picked career-best figures of 6/56, as Australia managed to add 111 runs to their overnight scores, majorly thanks to Usman Khawaja’s 72 and 37 from captain Tim Paine. Resuming on 190-4 after lunch, Australia lost 4-6 off 23 balls with Shami taking 3-5 in eight balls.

Australia got two early wickets, with Rahul continuing his miserable run in Tests with a duck in the first over, being bowled by Starc and Pujara was accounted by Hazlewood for 4 runs.

This brought Virat Kohli out in the middle and when tea was taken, India was 15/2 with Kohli yet to open his account. Instead of having some cooling down time in the dressing room, Virat decided to have a short net session to get himself in the zone before going out there and spent the 20-minute break knocking the ball around.

This was confirmed by commentator Aakash Chopra as he tweeted, “Kohli spent 20 mins of the tea-break in the nets...having a hit. #AusvInd #7cricket @7Cricket @1116sen.

However, it was all for no avail as Nathan Lyon got Kohli to defend on the front foot and got him to edge one to Khawaja in slips for 17 runs, leaving India at 48/3.
