AUS v IND 2018-19: Sachin Tendulkar praises Nathan Lyon after his Perth show, calls him a "special spinner"

Australian star spinner Nathan Lyon earned praise from cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar for his sensational efforts with the ball in the ongoing Perth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy here on Sunday (December 16).

In Perth, Lyon recorded his 14th five-wicket haul during India's first innings of the second Test to help Australia to bundle the visitors out for 283 runs.

It was for the seventh time when the off-spinner has taken five wickets or more in an innings against India to share the record of Sri Lanka great Muthiah Muralidaran in Test cricket.

However, Lyon took only 30 innings while Muthiah 32 to achieve the feat in the longest format of the game. He ended up with figures of 5 for 67 in 34.5 overs in Perth.

Meanwhile, Tendulkar called Lyon "very special" as well as said the Aussie has got terrific variations and uses the pace and bounce from the pitch well.

He wrote on Twitter, “Australia have got a very special spinner in @NathLyon421. He has got terrific variations and uses the pace and bounce from the pitch to extract maximum value. #INDvAUS”

On the other hand, Lyon was also delighted to get applause by the cricket icon -Tendulkar, saying being recognized by one of the greatest of the game was a "massive honour" for him.

Lyon told reporters after Day’s play on Sunday in Perth, “That's amazing to get something like that from Sachin Tendulkar. He's obviously one of the greatest of all time to ever play the game. So, to get recognised from him it's a massive honour.”

Noteworthy, India now needs only 243 runs to win the second Test with 8 wickets at their hands against Australia in Perth.
