Australia and India resumed their rivalry in the second Test of the four-match series, being played at the Optus Stadium in Perth. Australia won the toss and chose to bat first. They also went in with the same playing XI from the 1st Test.

India, on the other hand, made two changes in Hanuma Vihari and Umesh Yadav coming for the injured duo of R Ashwin and Rohit Sharma. Australia had a very good start with the openers both scoring fifties and adding 112 for the first wicket.

However, Australia started to lose wickets with Bumrah trapping Finch LBW for 50 and then Yadav accounting for Khawaja for 5 runs. Marcus Harris did well before Vihari had him caught by Rahane for 70.

India needed more wickets to put Australia under pressure and captain Virat Kohli stepped up with a brilliant catch of Peter Handscomb on the bowling of Ishant Sharma. He tried to cut a short ball too close to him and was brilliantly caught in one hand by Kohli, as the ball flew over him.

This wicket of Handscomb left Australia 148/4 in the 55th over.
