AUS v IND 2018-19: Mitchell Starc might be dropped if he fails in Perth, says Mark Waugh

Former Australian cricketer and national selector Mark Waugh is among national cricketing greats who has not impressed with Mitchell Starc’s performance against India in Adelaide.

Starc ended up with the figures of 2/63 and 3/40 in Adelaide and that was deemed as a lackluster performance by the star seamer, as he failed to pick up big wickets and even he was not consistent with his line and length during Australia’s 31-run defeat in the opening Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Following his another average performance, Waugh said that the Australian pace bowler hasn’t hit his peak in the past 12 months and has been inconsistent with the red ball.

However, Waugh believes that Starc can bowl bad balls and is hoping that the paceman will come up with an unplayable delivery in the second Test in Perth.

On Wednesday (December 12), Waugh told Big Sports Breakfast,He hasn’t bowled at his best probably the last 12 months. He’s just been a little bit off with his consistency and line and length.”

He added, “But he’s that sort of bowler who’s a bit of an enigma. He bowls some bad balls and then he’ll bowl you a cracking delivery. I’d just love to see him a bit more consistent with the new ball.”

While Perth wicket will suit Starc and the pacer would be certainly looking to make the most of the fast track, Waugh believes that the national selectors might drop him for the third Test of the four-match Test series if he fails to impress with the ball in the second Test against India.

He signed off by saying, “Perth’s really going to suit him. He’s going to bowl quickly there and get a lot of bounce. If he’s probably not up to scratch in Perth I think they might think about making some changes for the rest of the series.”
