Young Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant equaled the world record held by England’s Jack Russell and South Africa’s AB de Villiers for most catches in a Test match on Monday (December 10).

With trapping Mitchell Starc off Mohammed Shami’s delivery on Day 5 of the first Domain Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the 21-year-old completed 11 catches in a Test match and joined the masters of the game – Villiers and Russell to share the world record in Test cricket in Adelaide.

Pant took six catches in the first innings and then grabbed five more in the second innings of Australia who thrashed by India in the first Test of the four-match series by 31-runs in Adelaide on Monday.

With the 11 dismissals, Pant also overtook Wriddhiman Saha, who previously held the record for most catches in a Test match by an Indian wicket-keeper with 10 against South Africa January 2018.

Meanwhile, the young lad is delighted to contribute in team's cause and of course, happy to achieve the milestone in his only sixth outing in the whites for India.

Pant told reporters after Adelaide match, “It was really nervous as they were coming close, but we did well. I’m very happy to contribute to the team, first time getting to this milestone. I always enjoy troubling batsmen. I love it when they concentrate on me and not on the bowlers.”

Noteworthy, Russell achieved the feat against South Africa in 1995, while De Villiers matched the exploit against Pakistan in 2013.
