Australia battled hard in the first Test, despite going down by 31 runs.

All the hype before Australia's Test series against India was worth it as the opening Test totally lived up to the expectations and went down to the wire s India won the game by 31 runs against Australia at Adelaide Oval to take a lead of 1-0.

But the result could have been a lot different, of Nathan Lyon had batted for 7-8 more overs. He remained unbeaten on 38, while R Ashwin dismissed Josh Hazlewood on 13 to give Indian fans a sigh of relief.

The lower-order Aussie batsmen made things tough for India, taking Australia from 115/5 to 291. No one would have expected such performance from Australian tailenders.

After the win, coach Shastri revealed how close the game was. To describe the situation better he used Hindi when Sunil Gavaskar in the studio told him "Chhodna mat (Don't leave them (Aussies)", which is also the tagline of the series given by broadcasters.

Replying to Gavaskar, Shastri said, "Chhodenge to nahi, lekin thode der ke liye waha gote muh mai aa gaye the. (Won't leave them, but for a while, I had balls in my mouth)"

Australia put up their last wicket partnership of 32 runs. Lyon and Hazlewood were looking comfortable before the latter edged one of Ashwin's delivery to KL Rahul.

Twitter went crazy over Shastri's use of slang on live TV. Here is how they reacted:
