AUS v IND 2018-19: India beats Australia by 31 runs in first Test with Ashwin, Bumrah and Shami starring

Cheteshwar Pujara was named the Player of the Match for his innings of 123 and 71 | GettyIndia achieved a major record as they won the first Test against Australia at the Adelaide Oval by 31 runs, winning the first Test of the series against Australia in Australia for the first time.

Australia started from 104/4, their overnight score and Ishant Sharma struck to remove Head for 14 runs. Then captain Tim Paine and Shaun Marsh gave some solidarity to the innings, as Marsh completed his fifty and went on to score 60 runs before Bumrah had him caught behind.

The Australian tail wagged hard as Paine got support from Cummins (28) and Starc (28). However, Bumrah removed Paine for 41 runs with the score reading 187/7. However, Cummins, Starc and Nathan Lyon (38*) added more than 100 runs, as Australia was finally dismissed for 291 runs.

For India Ashwin (3/92), Mohammad Shami (3/65) and Jasprit Bumrah (3/68) were the main wicket-takers, while Ishant Sharma picked one wicket.

The 31-run win in the first Test gave India an unprecedented lead of 1-0 going into the second Test in Perth Stadium, Perth. Cheteshwar Pujara was named the Player of the Match for his innings of 123 and 71 in the Test match.

The second Test match begins on December 14 at the Perth Stadium in Perth.
