Rohit Sharma got the confidence of Indian skipper Virat Kohli when he decided to back him over Hanuma Vihari on a bouncy pitch for the first Test at the Adelaide Oval.

Rohit got a good start and built a partnership with Pujara to dig India out of trouble, but an attempt to over attack off-spinner Nathan Lyon cost him his wicket. Rohit Sharma's decision to needlessly attack Lyon and then choosing a terrible shot to do so backfired, as Lyon had him caught at the boundary by Marcus Harris.

His 61-ball 37 runs innings included three sixes and in an attempt to add more, he got out, leaving the team in more precarious position at 86/5. The need of the hour was to stay there, but Rohit couldn't play as per the situation.

His shot was criticized by the cricket experts and fans. "That shot sums up Rohit's Test career" is what everyone uttered after he walked back.

At the end of first day's play, India has scored 250/9. That score was possible due to a courageous 123 by Cheteshwar Pujara, who along with the lower order, accumulated important runs and took India to a respectable total after the top order collapse.

Here is how Twitter reacted to Rohit's dismissal:
