Batting legend Sunil Gavaskar has predicted India's maiden Test triumph down under, saying that Virat Kohli's men will come out victorious by a margin of 3-0 from the four-match Test series in Australia.

"India should win this series and by a 3-0 margin. Melbourne Test may end up in a draw because of rain and that's what I feel," Gavaskar told India Today, "If there is grass on the pitch and if Australia elects to bat first, Indian bowlers are well capable of exploiting the conditions."

"They (Indian batsmen) have played in South Africa and England, where they had encountered bouncy and swinging conditions."

"So, hopefully, the Indian batsmen will use that experience and come good in Australia this time," he added.

With the rise in India's fast bowling stocks and the hosts missing two of their best batsmen in Steve Smith and David Warner, there have been genuine claims of this being the Indian team's best opportunity.

Gavaskar further stressed his point, saying, "Surely, this is Australia's weakest batting line-up that I have seen as it lacks experience. Aaron Finch was recently batting at the fifth position for Victoria, so it will be difficult for him to adjust to opening position suddenly. The other opener Marcus Harris would be nervous playing his first Test and then Usman Khawaja is coming back from an injury. So it will be tough for them."

The great man also emphasized the need for India field two spinners at the start of the series and feels that Kuldeep Yadav and Ravichandran Ashwin will be best equipped to excel on the task.

"I will go with Kuldeep Yadav and Ashwin in the playing XI for the opening Test with three fast bowlers. If I have to pick just one spinner, then it has to be Kuldeep because the Australians were not able to read him in the T20I series that India just played. He brings that novelty factor as the Aussies haven't played him much," he signed off.

The Border-Gavaskar kickstarts with the first Test at Adelaide from Thursday, December 6.
