Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting has named his Indian bowling unit that should be fielded in the first Test. Ponting had already mentioned that India has a brilliant bowling lineup this time around and with the presence of both experience in Umesh Yadav, Mohammad Shami, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ishant Sharma and the youth of Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep Yadav; Australia will face a tough task ahead of them.

Ponting has chosen Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, and Ravichandran Ashwin as his choice of Indian bowling attack for the first Test at Adelaide. Ponting felt Shami is good with the new ball and Shami is a great component of reverse swing, which he felt was required.

In a surprise, he picked Umesh over Bumrah, as he felt a fresh Bumrah will be helpful for more faster pitches later in the series.

When it came to picking spinners, he felt Kuldeep Yadav is a must as he is a wrist spinner and can spin the ball anywhere. With Ravichandran Ashwin, Ponting reckoned he could play the holding role from one end with his experience.
