There are some rays of hopes for Australian cricket before playing India at home, as their veteran batsman Usman Khawaja is in line to recover in time before the first Test of the four-match Test series, starting from December 6 at the Adelaide Oval.

At the moment, the 31-year-old is aiming to win the race against time to be fit for the Adelaide Test, as he is recovering from a knee injury, which has now progressed to the point that he can face bowling later this week in the nets to take a step towards returning to the game.

The left-hander has been out of action since undergoing surgery on a torn meniscus that he picked up during Australia’s Test series against Pakistan in October in the UAE.

Before sitting out, Khawaja made a monumental 141 to guide Australia to a remarkable draw against Pakistan in Dubai in his last Test appearance for the Kangaroos.

Khawaja told media about his recovery, “It’s going pretty well so far, just over two weeks, ran at 100 percent yesterday on the treadmill, hopefully, run outside tomorrow, so progressing well so far.”

Noteworthy, he will set off his eyes Queensland’s Sheffield Shield match against Victoria on November 27 in Brisbane or a Futures League match to prove his fitness for the opening Test against India.
