Harshly terming them as “perpetual disappointment”, former fast bowler Geoff Lawson has asked the Australian selectors to "move on" from the left-hand bat & all-rounder Shaun and Mitchell Marsh before deciding on the personnel for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India.

Disappointed with their overall performances at the highest level, Lawson believes that the time is ripe for Australia to step forward and away from the Marsh brothers and not pick them for the first two Tests at Adelaide and Perth.

While both Shaun and Mitchell have had good showing in the ongoing Sheffield Shield season for Western Australia, Lawson expressed firm reiteration of his faith.

“Got to move on from this perpetual disappointment that (is) the Marsh brothers,” the 60-year-old, who played 46 Tests and 79, was quoted saying on Big Sports Breakfast show.

Lawson even suggested that in place of the duo, of whom Shaun became the second highest run-scorer (445 at 74.16) in the Ashes, while Mitchell amassed two centuries across his three Tests and scored at an average of 106.66, Peter Handscomb and Marcus Stoinis should be picked to face the touring Virat Kohli led Indian side.

“I think he(Handscomb) is a good player but we’re not going to pick him on a vast swatch of runs, we’re just going to pick him on potential,” he said, “He’s the guy(Stoinis) I’d probably have at No.6, taking the Mitch Marsh spot," and signed off.

The tour begins with the first T20I at Gabba on Wednesday, November 21. Before the all-important Border-Gavaskar Trophy starts at Adelaide on December 6.
