During the third’s play in the just-concluded Sydney Test, Ravindra Jadeja was struck on his left thumb by Mitchell Starc. While he seemed in quite a bit of pain, the southpaw carried on batting following treatment as he finished 28* in India’s first innings. Subsequently, he didn’t come out on the field with the rest of the team and wasn’t needed to bat in the second essay.

In a media release, the BCCI on Monday said Jadeja will head to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for further management of his injury.

“Ravindra Jadeja suffered a blow to his left thumb while batting on Day 3 of the third Border-Gavaskar Test that concluded on Monday. He later went for scans and the results have shown that he has dislocated his thumb,” the BCCI said in a statement.

“The all-rounder will now consult a hand specialist in Sydney before he returns to India. He will then head to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for further management of his injury,” it added.

As per the reports, Jadeja will be out of action for about 6 weeks, which rules him out of the major chunk of the four-Test series against England at home, starting February 5.
