Rahane took over as captain from Kohli and also batted at the no.4 spot | GettyAjinkya Rahane, stand-in Indian captain for the last three Tests in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, scored a brilliant unbeaten ton on the second day of the MCG Test, to put his team in command.

India finished day 2 early due to rains interrupting the play on 277/5, 82 runs ahead in the first innings. Ravindra Jadeja was unbeaten on 40, while Pant made 29, Vihari made 21, Gill made 45 and Pujara made 17 and were the wickets to fall on day 2.

But the day belonged to Ajinkya Rahane, who anchored one end of the crease, batting at no.4 in place of Virat Kohli, who has come back to India. Rahane hit 12 sublime boundaries and played Cummins, Starc, Hazlewood, and Lyon with ease.

He also received some chances as well, after being dropped two times and counted on those chances to end up on 104* in 200 balls. Even Virat Kohli was impressed by Rahane’s knock and took to Twitter to applaud the Indian captain.

Kohli tweeted, “Another great day for us. Proper test cricket at its best. Absolutely top knock from Jinks @ajinkyarahane88

India finds themselves in a good position and any lead of over 150 runs would give Australia a proper run for the money in coming time.
