Virat Kohli managed just one fifty on entire New Zealand tour.
This poor performance from the world’s no.2 ranked Test batsman led to critics calling him out for his penchant to fish outside off stump when the ball is swinging. Something that led to his downfall in England six years ago. Kohli, on the whole tour of New Zealand, managed just one half-century in nine matches.
But he has seemingly found a supporter in former Pakistan captain and one of the finest batsmen of his generation, Inzamam-Ul-Haq. He lashed out at Kohli’s critics and questioned how they could doubt the Indian captain’s batting skills.
“A lot of people are talking about Kohli’s technique etc. I am amazed by all this talk. He has scored 70 centuries, now how can you question his technique,” said Inzamam in his Youtube channel.
He felt that it was a bad phase for Virat, who has not scored a century in over 20 international matches now. “Team is not being able to perform if Kohli is failing what about the other players. This is just part and parcel of the game and it should be accepted in that particular way,” said the former Pakistan batsman.
“If I suggest anything... No need to worry, this phase will pass. Don’t even want to talk about technique. Should not change technique, he is a strong mind player, he should not be hassled. A big player has a strong mind, he will make a strong comeback. Virat will also make a strong comeback. Saeed Anwar and Sourav Ganguly both played brilliantly on the offside. Your strengths can become your weakness. Where you score, you will also get ou,t” added Inzamam.
