Australian opener David Warner has not been in the best of form in recent times.In 15 innings across all three formats since the first Ashes Test in Brisbane, Warner has averaged just 37.42 - well below the standard he has set in recent years.In that time, he scored one century and three fifties - all coming in the Ashes series.

In the five ODI matches and two T20 internationals since, he has averaged just 11.85 with a top score of 35.

However, Mark Waugh, Australian Chief Selector for T20s said that this is not a major issue keeping in mind the good run that the team is in and said that Warner is just one knock away from getting back into form. 

"Stats-wise, yes. He's had a run of outs and when you're playing this much cricket across three formats, it's impossible to keep up a very high level," Waugh said on the Big Sports Breakfast.

"Last night, he was unlucky after hitting it straight to backward-square, but he's that sort of player. He'll look a little out of touch and then 'bang' - he'll hit a couple in the middle and he'll be off and running."

While many cricket experts have questioned Warner's work load as a top order batter for Australia and now being the captain, Mark Waugh rubbished all those claims saying that captaincy will only improve his game. The IPL has been an imprint of the fact. He has led Sunrisers Hyderabad to the IPL title in 2016 and two years later with a rebranded team, he would look to repeat the feat. 

Speaking about Warner's role as Australia's captain Waugh said " "Like any job, there's going to be times when you don't feel as energetic or as lively from a day-to-day basis," Waugh said.Just these T20s, he seems so energetic, and being captain has sparked him up a fair bit.Every time he puts on a yellow or green cap, he's ready to go."

Australia's next assignment is on an away trip to South Africa post the ongoing tri-nation series for which Waugh hopes Warner will be back in form.
