Australian explosive all-rounder –Glenn Maxwell, very much returned back to form with an all round performance in the second T20I of the triangular series against England.
In their second T20I of the seven-match Trans-Tasman Tri-Series, featuring New Zealand as well, Glenn hit an unbeaten 103 off 53 balls and picked up 3-10 to help Australia to a 5-wicket triumph over England. It was Australia’s consecutive second win in the series, previous was against a 7 wicket win against New Zealand.
With this blistering match-winning knock, Maxwell joined the elite list of players to hit more than one century in Twenty20 International history, which features names like Brendon McCullum, Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis, Rohit Sharma and Colin Munro.
At the Bellerive Oval, Hobart, Australia won the toss and opted to bowl, Man of the Match Maxwell’s fantastic bowling helped the hosts to bowl out England at 155, and then his stunning six finished the game by five-wickets in favor of the Kangaroos.
Maxwell, who was surprisingly dropped for the one-day series against England despite his stunning form in the domestic circuit, proved the Australian selectors’ decision wrong with his match-winning knock in Hobart and an unbeaten 40 against New Zealand in their opening T20I of the series.
According to a report in BBC, Maxwell told reporters after the match, “It's been great to transfer my Sheffield Shield form into the Big Bash and now this tri-series. That's the most pleasing aspect for me. I told Alex Carey to get two off the first ball because I didn't have much left, but he gloved one and told me to go and get the hundred. It was nice to get one over the rope and finish the job.”
The 29-year also said that he is happy with his contribution and see himself to perform well after a frustrating summer.
Maxwell further added, “Missing out on the one-day squad and not playing any part in the Ashes, it was obvious where I wanted to be this summer. I had to do a lot of work behind the scenes and I feel I've done that and got back into the Aussie colors.”
Maxwell signed off by saying, “For us to start the series the way we have has been outstanding. We haven't had a lot of success in T20 cricket for the last few years.”
